Technology Alone Won't Fix the Freight Industry
Rolondo ThomasJanuary 30, 2026
Technology alone will not fix the freight industry. Real advantage comes from disciplined execution, clear accountability, and people who know how to use the tools in front of them.
Technology will not save the freight industry on its own. People will.
The future of brokerages and carrier operations depends on how well technology and people work together, not on which tools companies buy.
The Freight Industry Is Buying Tools, But Not Always Building Capability
Companies are investing heavily in TMS platforms, load boards, fraud prevention systems, tracking software, cybersecurity platforms, and AI-driven tools. But too many organizations assume that buying technology automatically creates a competitive advantage. It does not.
If teams do not understand the tools, trust the tools, or use them consistently, technology becomes expensive shelfware.
Technology Accelerates Outcomes, Good or Bad
Technology is a force multiplier. If your people are disciplined and aligned, technology makes them faster. If your people are disorganized and undertrained, technology simply helps them fail faster.
Tools do not fix broken processes. Software does not replace leadership. Automation does not eliminate accountability.
The Real Competitive Advantage Is Human Execution
The best brokers and carriers are winning because of execution: strong dispatcher decision making, brokers who understand carrier realities, sales teams that sell value, operations teams that solve problems proactively, and leadership that sets standards.
The companies that will dominate the next decade of freight are not the ones with the most technology. They are the ones with the best trained people using technology wisely.
